Each year we survey our network of owl and kestrel boxes across the district to check on the health of the birds. Pictures from our latest survey are shown below. In a survey in June 2026 we were fortunate to have had a good year for both owls and kestrels.
- 13 owl chicks were found with 3 adults, but we had 9 dud eggs (5 in one box along with a Kestrel's).
- 10 Kestrel chicks found
- 5 boxes had Jackdaws in them
- 7 stock dove chicks were found with one additional egg.
- 4 new boxes have been ordered for replacement
Seeing these environmental schemes working well is one of the most rewarding aspects of our role.
